Advanced Media Wiki Side Bar disable automatic alphabetical sorting

Hello all,

when I use the advanced media wiki sidebar to automatically create a nice subtree of my wikis pages, it sorts the branches of the tree by the first letter of the name of the page instead of the order in which those headings appear on my main-page.

E.g. I have my main page with two subpages named “Page” and “Following Page” which are linked on my main page one after the other. In the menu of the side bar however, “Following Page” appears on top, because it starts with “F” instead of “P”.

Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? I would like to keep using the advanced media wiki side bar, so I can keep another not-dynamic section of the sidebar with fixed links too.

Kind regards

Hello Benjamin,

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to add sorting in the extended MediaWiki sidebar. As a workaround, you would actually have to work with the MediaWiki sidebar.

Kind regards

Hello Monique,

thank you for your reply, but I think you missunderstood. It is indeed already automatically sorted by alphabet, but I would like to turn it off, so that subpages of the main page appear in the side bar in the same order as they are linked on the “home” or main page.

Kind regards
Benjamin

Hello Benjamin,

the only way to get a hierarchical menu where you can add pages in a manual order is to make them sub elements of an existing menu item.

Instead of node type “subpage tree” you would always select “Internal link” as the element type.

Of course, this means that each time your page gets a new subpage, you will have to add it manually to the sidebar.

Best regards,
Margit
