I’ve been using the Workflows extension, which offers deeply needed functionality for controlling the review process of wiki pages.
Since our latest upgrade, however, I have noticed that it has become impossible to start a new worklfow instance when there is another one running on the same page. This basically renders the extension useless for our usecases.
I found this note on the documentation pages:
Only one workflow instance of a paricular workflow can be active on a page. v4.5.5+
This is definitively not an improvement. What is the reason for this change? Can anything be done about this?
I’ve had the same problem and contacted the support. The answer was:
We have determined that the feedback function is intended to work this way.
For feedback from multiple people, there is a workflow called “Group Feedback.”"
Unfortunately my reply below remained unanswered.
Unfortunately, the group feedback workflow only allows feedback from groups and not specifically from multiple individuals. It cannot be the goal to create hundreds of groups in the wiki if you need feedback from a certain combination of individuals.
Maybe this thread will trigger a reaction/adaption.
There have been some design changes to the workflow implementation, so that two workflows of the same type cannot be executed at the same time.
However, you can always define your own workflows and depending on the use-case, this might solve your problem. For example, it is technically possible to assign multiple individual users to a single group feedback activity. Our default Group Feedback workflow is group-based, but you can define this differently in a custom workflow using the wiki’s workflow designer.
There is a quick tutorial on how to use the workflow designer here:
The activity for assigning indivdual users to a group feedback instead of a single group looks like this in the workflow editor:
